Miss Saint Louis' Outstanding Teen: Warrior Not a Worrier Inspiration

Updated: Jun 24, 2020

My hands were trembling as I walked into my high school as I saw girls with abundant clothing racks, countless dresses and beauty beyond imagination. As each foot took a taunting step towards the school I have gone to school for the past three years, I was taken back to my collection of memories. I was walking into a different school this time. My mother and I walked to Selvidge Middle School hand-in-hand. My hands were trembling as I walked into my middle school as I saw abundant friend groups, countless lockers and tall students beyond a middle schooler's imagination. My mother introduced myself to the head principal and his eyes danced happily across the gleaming light of the ceiling and just then, and only then, I felt like I belonged. I now walk to the steps of my first beauty pageant at my local high school with my mother's hand in mine. My mother said two words which somehow had the magic potion to pour into my confidence to start this journey: "You belong". So, we walked inside with our hands held together.

Hi, my name is Sarah George and I am your Miss Saint Louis's Outstanding Teen 2020. It still feels surreal typing that title on my computer screen, for I never thought I would be here, writing a blog, being titled a pageant queen, and feeling comfortable in my own skin. The most nerve-wrecking experience I have in my entire life was doing this pageant but I wouldn't trade my experience for anything else in this world. Indeed, I won my first local pageant, but that's not the success I am referring to. It was the success of getting out of my own fearful nightmares, it was networking in a community that was beyond compassionate, and it was becoming the person I am today.

This blog will serve as the middleman between me and you. Through this blog, I will explain my platform, share my experiences and create a bond with my readers. Thank you for reading this tiny excerpt of my first blog! Expect more to come! I was inspired to write from a young age, for writing has always been a creative passion of mine. So, I figured: Why not share my journey with those closest to me? This blog will not be perfect, but it will me, and I have realized that IS enough.
